Believe that you can make that change!

Surfing for me is the only place where I can be free from society and be myself!

Growing up in a world which requires you to fit in with everyone else made me want to find a passion that allowed me to express myself differently from others, especially living in a town where everyone tries to look and be the same. Let’s take school as an example hundreds of children all different ages and frames, tall and short. Everyone aspires in those environments for it to be in their best interest to fit in, however this is only so they are not seen as weird, ugly or unpopular! I’ve grown to realise that those people that look down on you and want you to change to be like the rest of them are really just jealous of your ability to be strong and stay focused and be the person you want to be!  I want to let everyone know that whether you’re struggling at school or maybe not fitting in with some “group” that life’s too short to follow the pack, find your own path and focus on your goals!

I grew up being very sporty, and was very lucky to have a surfing Dad! I only got into surfing when I was 13, which everyone is surprised at when I tell them and I always get asked the question…’how did you get so good so fast?’  Well, it takes dedication and you have to believe in your self! You will start small, you might be putting work in everyday and not seeing change and this might frustrate you and you might lose motivation… but just keep focused. Keep doing one more step, skip, lift, metre, because all your hard work will pay off!

You have to stop worrying about what other people think or what their goals are. You need to work on you….beat your mind, the person inside you telling you ”you can’t“ turn him off and tell him “you can” change your doubtful mindset and believe you will succeed!  You can’t predict your future but you can work for it!

Social media can be a huge trap for young adults like myself, I spend hours browsing and searching on Instagram and snapchat, scrolling through and seeing what some people categorise themselves as “the prettiest” “the hottest” you have to realise they are very insecure and screaming for attention, so trust me you don’t need to compare yourself to them! The biggest solution is to put down your phone! Go outside, try something new….surfing changed my life, it allowed me to become confident and it showed me that life is more than just what’s inside school or your phone and it taught me valuable lessons that have changed me as a person forever!

So my message to you is believe that you can make that change!

Because I believe in you!!
